Fluorinated acrylic monomer modified core-shell polyacrylate latex particles: Preparation, properties and characterizations

The core-shell acrylic emulsion was synthesized by a semicontinuous seeded polymerization with acrylate monomers as the main materials and octafluoropentyl methacrylate (OFPMA) modified monomers. influences of OFPMA on hydrophobicity, thermal stability mechanical properties latex film were investigated. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis X-ray photoelectron (XPS) indicated that successfully incorporated into resin chain. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) image showed structure particles. addition reduced water absorption ratio (3.2 wt%) improved its resistance. Contact angle coating surface increased from 80.7° to 90.7°. Moreover, TGA curves initial decomposition temperature polymer 355 370 °C. Additionally, OFPMA, tensile strength polymers also 7.77 MPa compared pure resin. application can reduce amount fluorine-containing environmental pollution, improve economic benefits. This study provides new kind environmentally friendly waterborne simple method for optimizing performance resins.
